A Networking Testbed for IPv6-Based Future Air Traffic Management (ATM) Network
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a networking testbed, which is developed within the EC FP7 project SANDRA to test and validate IPv6-based protocols for future Air Traffic Management (ATM) network. The development was originally initiated within the EC FP6 project NEWSKY which aimed at developing a concept for a global, heterogeneous communication network for aeronautical communications, based on IPv6 protocol stack. The SANDRA project aims at designing and implementing an integrated aeronautical communication system and validating it through a testbed and, further, in-flight trials on an Airbus A320. Central design paradigm is the improvement of efficiency and cost-effectiveness by ensuring a high degree of flexibility, scalability, modularity and re-configurability. Whereas the NEWSKY testbed is considered to be a proof-of-concept, the SANDRA testbed will represent a prototype aircraft communication system, integrating prototypes developed and implemented in SANDRA, comprising AeroMACS, Integrated Modular Radio (IMR), Integrated Router (IR), and a novel Ku-band antenna.

Design Aspects of a Testbed for an IPv6-Based Future Network for Aeronautical Safety and Non-Safety Communication
In this chapter, the development of a networking testbed to test and validate IPv6-based protocols for future Air Traffic Management (ATM) network is presented. The development was originally initiated within the EC FP6 project NEWSKY (Networking the Sky for Aeronautical Communications), which aimed at developing a concept for a global, heterogeneous communication network for aeronautical commu...
متن کاملMobility and Radio Resource Management in Future Aeronautical Mobile Networks
The aviation community is currently working on the standardization of data communication systems for the future air traffic management (ATM). The standardization effort has two main streams, namely, standardization of future radio access technologies in the L-band (i.e., LDACS) and standardization of a future IPv6-based aeronautical telecommunications network (ATN/IPS). In this thesis, differen...
متن کاملAnalysis of Traffic Measurements in the VISTAnet Gigabit Networking Testbed
The characterization of ATM traffic is particularly important for developing and validating traffic models for the analysis of congestion control mechanisms, communication network protocols, and architectures for ATM networks. Unfortunately, little is known about the actual behavior of ATM traffic, since few ATM networks have been built and instrumented for measuring traffic. In this paper, we ...
متن کاملHigh performance computing simulator for the performance assessment of trajectory based operations
High performance computing (HPC), both at hardware and software level, has demonstrated significant improvements in processing large datasets in a timely manner. However, HPC in the field of air traffic management (ATM) can be much more than only a time reducing tool. It could also be used to build an ATM simulator in which distributed scenarios where decentralized elements (airspace users) int...
متن کاملBandwidth Adaptation for Traffic Flow in Connectionless Service over ATM Networks
Increasing traffic on the Internet and intranets has raised demands for high-speed, large-scale and cost-effective computer networking techniques. ATM connectionless service provides high-speed, highly scalable, and flexible services because connectionless networks are constructed logically over high-speed ATM networks. This paper described the self-sizing operation for high-speed, large-scale ...
